Trioesque

2022
Brückenmusik 27, Deutzer Brücke, Köln, Markmannsgasse
Trioesque, an immersive, site‑specific audio work inside the hollow concrete chambers of Deutzer Brücke in Cologne (Eingang Markmannsgasse)
was commissioned for the 27th edition of Brückenmusik (2022). Drawing on field recordings captured within the bridge’s three interlinked voids, Bailey weaves these raw acoustics into a three‑channel sonic composition re-played back into the space, allowing ambient rumble, traffic noise and reverberant silence to merge with her crafted material. As visitors move collectively along the tunnel‑like 440‑metre route, their experience of sound, architecture and motion becomes interdependent, transforming each step into part of the piece’s unfolding spatial performance. Trioesque explores sound as both environment and composition, highlighting how place and perception intertwine in unconventional listening contexts.
